Brother Sankofa (Youth Ministry Organizer)
Sankofa was born in Baton Rouge Louisiana, but was raised on the outskirts of Tubman City
(Baltimore), where he still resides. He passionately believes
that his spiritual name is a reflection of his life's journey as
he continues to evolve. The name "Sankofa" is an ancient
West Afrikan term which means, "Go Back And Re-learn
One's History to Prepare for the Future". In the summer of
2008, Sankofa's Youth Educational Program was birthed
when brother Sankofa discovered his true God-given purpose.
The concept of organizing a youth educational organization
to elevate the young generations' cultural awareness seemed
like a necessary solution for community empowerment.
Brother Sankofa's first recorded lecture was titled "Sacrifice
and Commitment" which took place in St. Louis, Missouri at
the Afrikan Village Convocation in the summer of 2008. Since
then Brother Sankofa has been diligently striving to perfect
his craft as a motivational speaker and teacher. As an organizer, leader, activist, mentor and
liberator, Sankofa deals primarily with topics as they effect black people. These topics include
hip-hop music, economics, relationships, black history, health nutrition and many others.
Sankofa's methodology for carrying out his devine mission is via lectures, workshops,
seminars and community programs.
Purpose of "Black Genius Youth Academy"
The "Black Genius" Youth Educational Program, is a branch of the the Afrikan Village Study
Group of Baltimore that caters specifically to the young generation. In "Black Genius", the
youth learn knowledge of self as they build their knowledge base to be the natural genius'
they are intended to be. Through proper cultural awareness, the youth will be better able to
serve the community in a positive manner. As the youth continuously cultivate their sense
of self-esteem and culture esteem, they will be able to make better informed decisions on
the road to success for the future. The youth will learn to demonstrate the application of
aquired knowledge through various hands on exercises and community outreach programs.
Lastly, "Black Genius" will help young scholars to discover and develop their God giving
purpose.
